Insurance, Payment and Timelines
An evaluation is a significant decision for a family, and you should not have to guess at how it works. Here is everything except the number, and I will give you that clearly, in writing, before you commit to anything.
Is this covered by insurance?
This is a private-pay practice. I am not in-network with any insurance plan. After the evaluation I provide a detailed superbill you can submit to your insurer for possible out-of-network reimbursement. Whether you are reimbursed, and how much, depends entirely on your plan. I cannot promise a result, and I would be wary of anyone who does.
What to ask your insurer before you call me
Five minutes on the phone with your plan will tell you more than any website can. Ask them:
What is my out-of-network benefit for psychological and neuropsychological testing?
What is my out-of-network deductible, and how much of it have I met this year?
Is prior authorisation required for testing?
What percentage of the allowed amount do you reimburse once the deductible is met?
Read them these five codes
Plans quote different benefits for different codes, so ask about each one by number:
90791 — the initial diagnostic interview. The intake conversation where I take your child's history before any testing begins.
96132 — neuropsychological testing evaluation, first hour. My time integrating the results, interpreting them, writing the report and going through it with you.
96133 — each additional hour of that same work.
96136 — test administration and scoring, first 30 minutes.
96137 — each additional 30 minutes of administration and scoring.
The number of units of each depends on what your child's evaluation actually requires, which is why no one can quote you an exact reimbursement in advance. Not me, and not your insurer.
How you will know the cost
I discuss fees openly on the free 15-minute call. You will know the full cost before you decide anything.
Payment
Half the fee is due when testing begins; the balance is due when you receive the final report. I accept check, Zelle, and credit card. There is a 3.5% processing fee on card payments.
How long it takes
Most families receive the written report within one to two weeks of the final testing session, and we meet to go through it together as soon as it is ready. If your timeline is tight, a CSE meeting, a school deadline, a college accommodations application, tell me on the first call and I will tell you honestly whether I can meet it.
If the cost is the obstacle
Say so on the call. Sometimes a narrower evaluation answers the question you actually have, and sometimes the right answer is that your district should be evaluating your child at no cost to you. I will tell you which situation you are in, even when it means you do not become a client.
